I began
my interest in pottery in 1979 at SUNY Plattsburg taking an extra Art
class to avoid taking a music class while I was working on my BS in Health
Education. Since then I have taken pottery classes at every college and
art center I have lived near: Oswego Art Center, Rome Art Center, Ohio
State University (where I got my Master’s Degree in Health Education), and
Purdue University. I have also worked 5 years at The Munson Proctor
Art Institute in Utica, NY as a pottery technician.
About 26 years ago I visited “ The Wizard of Clay” in Honeoye,
NY (near Rochester.) He uses leaves in his work, but his process is
a secret. As the years went on I tried different ways to use nature in my
clay. My instructor att Munson Proctor suggested that I use colored clays
called "engobes". I have since studied, tested, and finally developed my
own method of leaf work.
Each piece goes through a seven step process: forming the clay,
putting the leaf in and taking it off after a colored clay has be applied,
cleaning it up, firing it the first time, staining the leaves, then
applying the glaze and firing it a second time.
All my
pottery is fully functional, lead free, and oven, microwave, and
dishwasher safe. However, it does not do well with broiling or being
dropped on the floor!
Pottery is my hobby but it may become a full time job this year
after I retire from teaching Health at Westmoreland Central School. I
live in Westmoreland, NY with my husband and teenage son; along with one
dog and 4 cats.
If you
are interested in more of my pieces, you may contact me for an appointment
to view them at my home.

I show my work at the Mohawk
Valley Center for the Arts in Little Falls and at the Artisans in
Middleburg, and participate at selected craft fairs around NY state.
I have been fortunate to have received many ribbons and interviews.
I will be at the following
craft shows in 2010:
Green Craft Fair,
Saturday July 24th,
St Lawrence River
Rustic Show in Alexandria Bay on Aug 6-8,
Remsen Barn Festival of
the Arts (my personal favorite), which will be held on September the 25th

I also hope to participate
in Cooperstown’s Labor Day Weekend Outdoors Art and Crafts show,
