Although my profession
is Landscape Architecture, one of my favorite things has always been
growing and drying flowers. This, combined with a love of natural spaces,
has brought me to where I am today.
In the 1980’s, I began
making dried wreaths and arrangements and sold them through craft shows.
As my time for creating became more limited, I took a 15-year break. In
2005, I started a new business, Natural Expressions, so that I could
reintroduce myself to the world of floral design. I also joined
The Artworks
to market my work.
The
wreaths and arrangements use dried flowers such as
roses, statice, larkspur, salvia, and other species. I dry floral
elements from both my gardens and the wild, and also create arrangements in
baskets and pots. A personal favorite are the one-of-a-kind pieces of
driftwood that my mom (also an Artworks member) and I collect, prepare,
and decorate with natural materials. These pieces are intended as wall
hangings or centerpieces.
At home
in Syracuse, I also create fresh floral designs for weddings and holidays.
Christmas is a particularly favorite time, when I can use fresh balsam
greens accompanied by a variety of fresh flowers and candles.
