I began woodturning
twelve years ago to make parts for furniture I was making. Turning now
occupies most of my time in the studio. Little did I know how seductive
woodturning would become.
I am a Professional
member of the American Association of Woodturners and the Northeast
Woodworkers Association. Much of my training in this Craft has come from
my exposure to these organizations and their world-renowned instructors.
Most of the work I
produce is functional, however I have recently added decorative bowls for
those who enjoy the aesthetics of wood, its color and texture.
Every effort is made to produce a bowl that will become an heirloom.
Most materials are
North American hardwoods, many grown here in the foothills of the
Adirondack Mountains. Ashes, Maples, and Birch are my favorites. North
American craftsmen have used these woods for two centuries to produce
useful utensils. Though change is inevitable, I believe keeping a
connection to the past can add value to our daily lives. I derive great
satisfaction carrying on the age-old craft of turning wood to produce
objects that are useful, pleasant to the touch and pleasing to the eye.
I sell my turned
bowls at The Artworks in Old Forge, NY, and at several Fine Arts & Crafts
Shows in the Central NY area. I have won awards for craftsmanship and
design through attending these venues.
