A native of Camden, NY, I graduated from Camden
High School in 1962 and subsequently from the State University of New York
College of Environmental Science in 1967 with a degree in Environmental
Engineering. That same year, I married Melanie Peck in the Osceola,
NY Congregational Church. We have lived in Port Leyden, NY since
1971.
Although educated at SUNY ESF, I never actually worked
in the field of forestry, but was instead a high school math and science
teacher at South Lewis Central School in Turin, NY until retiring in 1996.
I taught Chemistry, Physics, Computer Programming, and other science and
math subjects.
I learned to appreciate fine woodworking from my father
and have always enjoyed working with wood, primarily making toys and
puzzles. I especially like working with northern hardwoods such as
sugar maple, black cherry, white ash, yellow birch, American beech, and
sumac. I make toys, cooling racks, shaker oval boxes, and related
items for The Artworks, where I have been a member since 2004.
