I have been painting and drawing
since I was a child and am mostly self-taught. I began selling my
work in the seventies through craft shows and local gift shops, painting
mostly in the summer while on vacation from my career as a high school
English teacher. Since my retirement in 1999, I have been able to devote
much more time to what has become my passion. I have also taken a few
classes in both watercolor and acrylic to learn some of the ”tricks of the
trade.” I enjoy painting on a variety of surfaces from paper to slate to
wood, and my style and media vary with the nature of the art I am
creating. My subjects range from detailed paintings of birds and other
wildlife to landscapes and decorative art. I often use acrylic paints,
but I also create paintings in watercolor, oil, and colored pencils.
I have displayed my work at several
shows at the Remington Gallery in Ilion, at the Munson Williams Proctor
Sidewalk Art Show in Utica, NY, and at The Art Center in Old Forge, NY,
where last year I won an Adirondack Chip Award for my entry.
I sell my work through The Artworks
and online on eBay under the name “theinquisitivecat.” Through my eBay
sales I have sold my art to collectors all over the world. As my time
allows, I also accept occasional commissions for paintings such as pet
portraits or home landscapes.
